Thinking about upgrading our platform to a macdon, will a 4wd Case IH 2588 be large enough to carry a 40 foot Mac-don in 70 bushel wheat and 40 bushel beans? and if so what all would i need to be able to facilitate it.

Thanks

A 40' header on a 2588 in 70 bushel wheat and I think you would be crawling along especially if the straw is tough, and thats alot of material going up a small feeder house (compared to the larger machines that run 40's). The weight of the header on that machine would concern me as much as anything. If your fields are flat and the crop is very dry then its probably ok, but having run drapers on various machines I feel a 35' would be a very nice fit for that machine, a 40' and I don't think you would be happy with some of the issuses you may run into. my 2 cents.......

Use a 36 ft on our 2588 , there already was fluid in rear tires and it handles it well, I think it is a better match than the 30 ft we had before as it keeps the machine full and does a better job of threshing in lower yielding wheat.
We don't use a grain cart so its nice to have a hopper full when going 1 pass up and back , that extra 6 ft makes a difference

How much more weight going from a 35 or 36 to 40ft ?
